Characteristics of a Partial Truckload Service or PTL

Among the many options available to you to transport your cargo, based on its nature and weight, PTL or Partial Truckload service is suitable to cargo that is similar to LTL freight. One of the striking features of PTL is that it is not huge enough to require a single shipment. Nevertheless, this type of shipment requires a special price quote, which is usually done on an on-the-spot basis, whereby a special price is quoted for PTL shipments. Also called partial loads, these shipments usually weigh more than 7,000 lbs and occupy about 6 pallet spots in a truckload.

PTL differs from LTL and is usually offered as a door-to-door service. The truck used at pick-up points transports the freight and you can also benefit from the low cost involved in this method of transportation.

As the cargo is not moved or transferred much, there is minimal chance of damages caused to the cargo. The time taken for transit is also much lesser then other types of truckload services.

Reasons why you should be aware of shipping rates and how to calculate these rates:

You should collect information about the shipping rates quoted by various service providers so that you can compare, analyze and choose the best one among them.

You can reduce freight costs substantially if you know the procedure to calculate shipping rates accurately and promptly.

Regardless of the type of your cargo, you ascertain the shipping rates specifying the correct weight and attributes of your cargo.
